As I told you all about a week ago. USA Today asked Marymount design students to sketch designs for First Lady's Inauguration gown and the results are in! First of all I want to say that I am so proud of my colleges that siezed the opprotunity sucessfully. Secondly, I am especially proud of my dear frined Silivia Huezo, who won Tim Gunns first place vote for the CEREMONY CHIC WINNER. Huezo's tan wool coat, with a high mandrian collar and cinched waist made quite an impression. Gunn says, "...There's a strong visual impact of this look (imagine this look in front of the Capitol) and it will enhance ,rather than overwelm the new first lady. Huezo is definitlty an inspiration, knowing her personally I can say that her designs are always new and fresh, but her heart and passion is even more amazing than her talent.
Kathyrn Sich won the BELL OF THE BALL categorie. Her gold, grecian inspired ball gown was simple, yet it holds a sophisticated sexiness about it that I love. Gunn says that this gown has a "Wow factor"
Iwona Kapcia-Paila won Sibling Revelry. Gunn says, "These deisgns represent sophisticated dressing for girls. They have poilshed and a tailored elegance". I must abmit that some of the designs were not suitable for the first family, and defitiely not suitable for the Inaguration. Nonetheless, this was a great opprotunity for the students. I was told that there will be a live interview with the first place winners on MSNBC tomorrow at 11 a.m. I check up on it, so expect another blog about it.
